Apple Email Box Doesn't Bring in Email Anymore

I've had my MacBook Pro for almost 5 years now, and have used the generic Apple email box that was on the computer when I got it. This year I have noticed that I get this message saying 'Can't Connect To The Account 'Bellsouth'" Then underneath the message it says 'Enter the password for user 'Bellsouth.net' On the left of the message is the @ sign (in blue). I have no idea what my password is for this, but I have tried all kinds of passwords and nothing works. I have tried my email account password, but it doesn't work. Any ideas on what happened to my email box and how I can fix it? Thanks.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

Refer to If you can’t send email on your Mac - Apple Support.

Try the "Test using webmail" procedure described in that document. If you don't know your email account password, you will need to contact your email account service provider for instructions regarding how to reset it.
