Arrow key down in TextEdit and Note?

Why Apple changed the function of the arrow key down in the TextEdit and Note app from the BASIC use of moving down in the text to "center the text"?

The path in English I think it's Format > Text > To the center

If I'm missing something please let me know.

That's strange. On a US keyboard layout, the shortcut is cmd-| (and requires a modifier key).

You could try creating a custom keyboard shortcut for the Center command.

By creating another shortcut, it might restore using the arrow key for normal operation.

You might have to make a shortcut for each app, or you could try All Applications. Seems like it wouldn't matter if any other App had a Center command. Your shortcut would work for it, too.
