The most reliable method to migrate your data from the old Mac to the New Mac is to use Migration Assistant. Connect the old Mac's Time Machine External Hard Disk using a USB cable to the new Mac, then launch Migration Assistant and do your migration. By far this is the fastest and most reliable method and works 100% of the time assuming the Time Machine External Hard Disk is in good shape. DO NOT connect 2 Macs together using Wi-Fi, Ethernet or even a Thunderbolt connection as those tend to be not as reliable. If you do not have a Time Machine back up off the old Mac, then make one!
