System's preference password

I'm trying to unlock under system preferences so I can make changes. I am showing as the admin so that's not the problem. Apparently it's been a long time since I've done that and I can't remember my password. How can I figure out my password or reset it? In system preferences it has a way to reset password but it wants the old one first. I don't know my old one apparently.
