iPad restore

I have followed the steps to remove the passcode and restore to factory setting. The clearing went well, now I it will not restore. I continue to get the following error message: The iPad “iPad” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (9) and The iPad “iPad” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9). I am not sure how to get this to restore. Any suggestions?
