why is the family sharing photo albums not showing in photos on my new MacBook air but shows fine in my iPhone 7+ and my new iPad? How to fix this on the MacBook?

Have you enabled Shared Albums in Photos > Preferences > iCloud on your MBA?
I assume it is signed into an Apple ID that is part of your Family Sharing group.

It was already enabled but I unenabled and then re-enabled and rebooted. That seemed to fix it.
