Airpod pros not being recognized when lid is open next to iphone

I have tried turning Bluetooth off, disconnecting the earphones, and turning the phone off followed by resetting the airpods. What else can I do?

AirPods Pro require iOS 13.2 or later on your iPhone. Do you meet this requirement?
