Iphone6s storage is full but plenty pf room in icloud

They don’t communicate because iPhone storage has nothing to do with iCloud storage. Purchasing more iCloud storage does not help and storage to your phone. You need to delete some content on your phone in order to free up some space.

Are you using the iOS mail app or the gmail app? Or some other third party mail app? This is what you should see in the iOS mail app. If you tap Edit, then you can tap Select All, then tap Delete at the bottom of the screen.
