Catalina update - MBP 2013 - hangs after user credentials AMFI

After applying the Catalina update to a Macbook Pro, 15", 2013, boot hangs after login credentials are entered and the progress bar hangs near 100% (I left it this way over night and it remained).

I reset the SMC and the NVRAM, same behavior

On verbose reboot, 'AMFI' continues to output 'Denying core dump for pid <NUM>' - I've attached a picture of the loop that seems to be occurring. Any suggestions are welcome - thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro 15”, macOS 10.14

A reinstall over the network fixed this issue - maybe the initial installer was incomplete
