Mac Mini bluetooth issue

Hi, I have a late 2013 mac and have just purchased a new mac mini. I plan to use the mac as a display and target display mode works fine. The issue I'm having is that my bluetooth devices are not connecting to the mac mini - the apple mouse will connect but the apple keyboard will not meaning I can't even get through the setup screens for my mini.

Can someone please provide some insight into how this might be fixed? I really don't want to have multiple keyboards and mice.

You could have a problem when starting up and waking up the setup...

go to > Use your iMac as a display - Apple Support and have a look at the sleep and wake section.

Personally I would not use that setup, I get and use a real nice display or two for the Mac Mini and repurpose or sell the 2013 iMac.

If it's the Apple wireless keyboard with the lightning port, you can used it wired to the computer with a Lightning to USB cable. It does not need Bluetooth.
