Doubtful if the few limited target display modes would work,

to attach iMac (2012) to Windows-based portable computers.

However there may be some clues in this Apple Support article:

• Use your iMac as a display - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-an-imac-as-a-display-mh30822/10.14/mac/10.14

(Depending which macOS runs your Mac: note three latest are referenced within this article.)

More info suggests this only may work between supported Apple computers:

• Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support
