Photo Transfer

We purchased a new MacBook Pro to replace an iMac from 2008. As we took delivery of the MacBook, the iMac decided it had enough and quit. The iMac iOS had not updated in the past year. I am not sure what it was running and I cannot turn it on to verify.

We are trying to move the photos from the Timemachine to the new MacBook, but the photo files are either "greyed out" or if I try to import them via "photos", I get a "file is locked". My machine suggests running the photo repair program.

We attempted the repair program with no luck.

My questions are:

The machine says the photos are "locked", does it need the password from the previous machine to open the files?

Is there a method to "unlock" the photos, other than using the photo repair tool?

Thank you in advance for any help.

You must restore the library from the Time Machine drive while in the TM app:

If you don't see any backups hold down the Option key and use the TM menu and select "Browse Other Backup Discs…" Select the same disk.

Then located the library, select and click on the Restore button.
