Apple TV brightness

For years I have used a mini 2, and was very happy with brightness when watching movies etc, however ever since switching to the mini 5 I can’t help but notice that when watching movies or tv shows via the Apple TV app it just seems too bright, I have the iPad brightness set extremely low and it’s still very visible, almost an overglow on top of the screen.

its especially noticeable in scenes at night time as the brightness is layered on top of the video.

maybe I just need to get used to it but it’s quite off putting when trying to watch stuff.
