deleting 32 bit apps post Catalina upgrade

I am researching what 32 bit apps I have on my computer. Final Cut Pro 10.4.8 shows up as a 32 bit app that was last updated 12.10.19. My iMac currently operates on Mojave 10.14.6.

Should I leave this Final Cut Pro version on my hard drive when I upgrade to Catalina expecting that Catalina itself will upgrade FCP or that I'll get a notification to upgrade up through the App store?

Regarding other apps that are 32bit apps: will I be able to delete/uninstall them after the Catalina upgrade? Or must I delete them before doing so to get them off the drive?

Thanks.

Final Cut Pro 10.4.8 shows up in the Mac App Store as a 64-bit application that requires Mojave 10.14.6 or later. It was updated a month ago as you noted. Catalina will not mark this application as incompatible, and System Preferences : Software Update in Catalina will indicate when a future update of Final Cut Pro becomes available.

Those 32-bit applications installed on Mojave, that can only be removed by a 32-bit uninstaller, will be hard to remove from Catalina which will dirt nap that installer. I would be inclined to perform a Time Machine backup on Mojave, and then remove those 32-bit applications there — before the upgrade to Catalina.

The St. Clair software Go64 program is useful in determining what is 64-bit and 32-bit software. Dragging and dropping an application from the /Applications folder is frequently not a clean uninstall of third-party applications.

You do not have uninstall them as apps take up very little space. If they are 32 bit, they simply will not work in Catalina. And no, unless it is an Apple app, the developer of the third party app would need to issue an update - most will probably want you to buy a new version.

You can also easily see what is 32 or 64 bit by going to about this mac > system report and scroll down to Applications.
