AirPod Pro double tab settings missing/not working

Just moved from my old trustworthy AirPods to the new AirPod Pros, using them with my Xs MAX.

In the settings I can now adjust how they react to "squeezing" them, which I use for noise cancellation settings.

Unfortunately I can't use the "double tab" any more to close a phone call. There is nothing in the settings that would allow my to change/enable that behaviour. I do know that the standard Apple answer it to "reset everything to factory default".

btw.: I am not intending to use Siri with the AirPods

Searching this issue on Google reveals though, that I'm not the only one, and a reset would not fix this issue. I do have the latest firmware installed, (Model: A2084, Firmware: 2b588) so that should not be the issue.

Any concrete advice that is smarter than the "reset everything" suggestion?

Many thanks in advance...

Their is no tapping on the AirPod Pros. They have force sensors, no touch sensors.

You squeeze the force sensor to end a call.

Answer calls with AirPods

Do the following to answer a call; do the same to hang up or switch calls:

  • AirPods Pro: Press the Force Sensor on the stem of an AirPod
