deleting files in time machine
Since Time Machine does incremental backups of files, if I delete an old copy of a file how does Time Machine keep a newer copy of the same file? Or are all newer versions of the file also deleted?
iMac, OS X 10.11

Do not delete files in Time Machine, it's just asking for trouble. TM will delete older files automatically when space is needed.
No as I said TM is automatic, it will delete older files when space is needed. You should be using a drive that is dedicated to TM. If you want to store other files on the drive it's best to partition the drive.
Thanks. Can I set an upper limit on how much storage TimeMachine uses before starting to deleting old files. I do not want Time machine to hog all storage on my hard drive.
