iphone not connecting itunes

I just got a new iPhone iOS13 latest. I plugged it into a computer running Sierra and got a message to tell me that I need to download software to connect to iTunes. I did that and it connects to iTunes. Great.

However, when I plug he iPhone into my computer running High Sierra nothing happens. Is there some way to provoke that software download that seems to be needed to connect a new iPhone to an older OS?

Thanks,
