Why is my MacBook running slow on Catalina

I just upgrade to macOS Catalina and everything runs slow

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

It could be Spotlight is indexing the drive and/or Time Machine is backing up everything. Open Activity Monitor and select CPU and ( All Processes) to see if something is taking up a lot of CPU cycles.
