What's beyond the frame? I don't see it on my iPhone 11 Pro

When I use my phone in wide angle mode, it does not look at all like the frame that Apple shows in their promotion of this ultra-wide angle view. Nothing is viewable beyond the frame edge and I do not see, as shown in Apple's promo images, the focal length of the camera. What gives?

Well, I figured out you have to turn this feature on. It does allow you to see outside the frame. I am still not seeing the focal length displayed like the example image from Apple. Also, I thought this would preserve that data outside the frame, so that a wider view can be "recovered" in editing; not true.
