Ipad files copying stuck on spinning wheels

Since the new iPad os 13 i have been using my ipad files app to transfer video files for editing. I have experience a problem where files are “stuck while copying”. I am connected to an external drive and I tried to copy files from my ipad to the drive yesterday. It was taking a very long time because there was almost 40Gb of video files to transfer. I had to end the process because it was time to leave. Now today when I connect the drive it shows those same files still “spinning” but there is no hard drive activity on my external drive light indicator. When I attempt to copy additional files it simply adds them to a list of the other “files” that are spinning and just sits there. I have closed the app by swiping, unplugged the drive and connected it to my mac, and turned off and reconnected the drive.
