Is the flash turned on when you take the photo? Or are you referring to the fact the screen is completely black and you cannot see anything? If the screen is completely black like the camera is not functioning, see this, If the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support including contacting Apple Support if necessary.
