How do I reset my sons phone if I forgot the parental control password?

I realize I cannot restore from a backup, however I also cannot do a factory reset without knowing the parental control. Last time I called Apple when one of our iPads got locked out of the parental control I went thru all the steps they said and my device was then reset but completely locked out of being able to put any Apple ID in. So that turned into an expensive piece of junk. I don’t want that to happen to his phone.

why can’t a parent just receive an email with the code? It shouldn’t render the device useless!

If you forget your 4 digit Screen Time Passcode

4 Digit Passcode is for Screen Time Restrictions

6 Digit Passcode is for iPhone lock screen

Make sure to choose a passcode that's different from the passcode you use to unlock your device. If you can't remember a restrictions passcode that you set on a previous version of iOS, or you forgot your Screen Time passcode, you need to erase your device, then set it up as a new device to remove the passcode. Restoring your device from a backup won't remove your passcode.
