iPhone X is sending sms messages rather than iMessages to users with iPhones

My iPhone X is sending sms messages rather than iMessages to users with iPhones as well, how can I get my phone to send iMessages again

Is iMessages turned on and activated?

Do you have a data connection, not just voice?
