Ios 26.2 carplay issues with BMW

I have iphone 16 pro max on ios 26.2. Since updating to ios 26, the carplay experience is horrible. The user interface is laggy, freezes, impossible to use maps. Two out of five times it works OK.

I got BMW X5 with idrive 8.5. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Resetting connection, phone, etc. does not help. Any idea how to fix it? Or downgrade to ios 18? 26 is the worst update so far

First of all, no, you cannot downgrade back to iOS 18. Downgrading is not supported.

I’m waiting for a response from my son-in-law who drives a BMW X5 and has an iPhone 16 Pro. So far he has not complained about any CarPlay issues. I’ve asked him if he is on iOS 26.2 and if he has updated his X5 to iDrive 8.5. I’ll report back his response.

Well, my son-in law is still on iOS 18.6.2 so that will be of no help. Sorry.
