Mac no longer goes to sleep on battery after 26.2 update

Mac no longer going to sleep on battery after 26.2 update

Hello

I migrated to Tahoe when 26.2 was released.

This seems to have created a new problem: the computer won't go to sleep by itself on battery mode and it will drain away over a couple of hours as per the screenshot below.

I looked at the advice under 'battery' and 'lock screen' but these seem out of date when compared to the choices displayed in the OS.

Distant memory: previously you were able to specify 'duration to sleep', not just 'duration to display turnoff'. What's the equivalent in 26.2?

PS: this happens when the machine is on its own or connected to an external monitor.

Thanks

Also, open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder and select the Energy Tab. There is a column there labelled "Preventing Sleep" and you may have a process running that is not allowing your Mac to sleep.

verify you have shut down and restarted more than once since your "update."

>Shut Down

If this is a before and after issue...26.2 update from what previously???

I trust you made some changes to test...

Turn off that "lower power mode" for starters and compare your results.

Look at your Options there and make some changes:

I will say for update issue—

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

Your external Monitor and battery power only— makes no sense...

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you help optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.
