All document folders have disappeared after updating my Apple ID

I recently updated my Apple ID email address and now all of my desktop screenshots and document folders have disappeared.

I have an IMAC using Monterey 12.7.6

I asked ChatGBT who suggested it may have something to do with my iCloud?

No idea where to start with regards sorting this issue out.

I run a business from home due to a visual disability, and we have been trading over 10 years, so I have a huge amount of 'paperwork' (Yes Im old!) on my pc, which I cannot afford to lose.

Any help anyone can provide with a solution, or point me in the right direction will be gratefully accepted.

Many thanks in advance 🙏🏼

iMac 27″, macOS 12.7

Your Desktop and Documents did not disappear — they were moved when macOS Monterey detached your Mac from the old Apple ID during the email update. Your files are almost always inside iCloud Drive (Archive) or Mobile Documents folders. Follow the paths above and you should find everything. Do not sign out again. Most people recover 100% of their files by checking those specific folders.
