How does one get past error code -7005 when trying to reconnect a 1st Generation HomePod?

f you use a modern mesh router (especially Eero), a security setting often blocks the setup token.

  • For Eero Users: Open the Eero app, go to Discover > Apple HomeKit, and toggle it OFF. (You can try turning it back on later, but it must be off for setup).
  • For Asus/Netgear Users: Log into your router settings and temporarily disable QoS (Quality of Service). This feature can deprioritize the HomePod's tiny authentication packet, causing it to time out.
