iPhone 11 Mail repeatedly not syncing with Gmail

My fathers' iPhone 11 mail not syncing with gmail. I uninstalled account and reinstalled and it worked. Next day not working again. I saw there was an update - so I installed update. Now it worked again. A day later it stopped working again. He has plenty of storage and he doesn't use a lot of apps - He's in his 80s. Does he need a new iPhone or is there anything else I can try?

I don't think it's a software problem but rather a hardware problem. If you can't get Mail to work on the iPhone you can try the Google app for Gmail. It's on the app store called Gmail, but I might suggest you reset the network Settings and see if it helps. Go To General>Scroll to the bottom>Transfer or Reset iPhone>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
