External mic not working on MacBook Air (M1) after update

Just to clarify, have you tried the external mic with a macOS app (e.g. Voice Memos)? Trying to rule out an app-specific problem. I don't have a dedicated external mic, but FWIW I can select my Logitech StreamCam as a sound input source in Zoom, for example.
