Unable to play my iTunes library on non-Apple Music songs

I cannot play my iTunes library

I have been using iTunes for years and have amassed a large library. Some songs imported from my CD collection, some purchased from iTunes. Suddenly i can only play apple music purchased songs. I do not subscribe to Apple Music as I do not need another streaming platform. I just want to play my library and continue to use the playlists I have created.

Perhaps something in Empty/corrupt iTunes/Music library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community will resonate. Note that Apple are not going to withdraw the ability to play local music in your library. If those tracks stop working it may be that the library is corrupt, or there is some underlying hardware issue. Have you attempted to move your media files around, or renamed any drives for example? Do you have backups? Your unhidden purchases can usually be streamed from the cloud, which can work even when local files are unavailable for some reason. Sadly Apple Music/iTunes often fail silently rather than issue a sensible error message.
