There are several HP printers whose names begin with "HP Laserjet MFP" and whose names end with "dwe." I can't tell if yours is AirPrint-compatible or not. If it is, you might be able to do scanning using AirPrint and Image Capture.

There is a third-party commercial product called VueScan that supports a lot of old scanners. When I typed "dwe" into its Search tool, a half-dozen LaserJet models popped up. (Clicking on a particular scanner model gives details regarding VueScan's support for that model.)

If VueScan supports your particular scanner on macOS, paying for a copy of VueScan might be an option.
