Photos app sidebar not staying open

I just updated to 26.1 on my iPad and i now find that the sidebar on my photos app doesn’t stay open. Why?? It always used to stay open unless I closed it. Now it is the reverse. Is there a place to set a setting to have it stay open unless you close it??? otherwise I like the photos app in 26 much better than 18. I just have several albums and liked having them on the sidebar.
