Photos: People & Pets not finding faces

I have a set of about 50 photos of a family of five people. The faces are all clearly lit and visible. I would imagine that I could tag the faces of just a few pix and then Photos would just figure out the rest and save me the labour of tagging the rest of the photos. I have tried going to the profile page in People and Pets in order to prompt the system to find and tag the rest of the images - but it just says - Can't find any more pix of this person.

Which is strange because there are more clearly lit photos where those people's faces are visible.

Is there anything I can do to avoid tagging each person manually in all 50 photos?

I am on Sequoia 15.7.1 Photos Version 10.0 (770.0.170) on a MacOS MacBook Pro

These faces may look "clearly lit and visible" to you, but they don't seem to be so for Photos. It does what it does, and we have no control over that. Luckily, on a Mac we can manually enter names for faces. Those manual IDs put the person into their proper People Album, but they have no effect on Photos' face recognition or identification.

If you have updated your OS recently, then it may take a week or more for Photos to finish its scanning.

The best practice is to include names of people in the captions and use keywords to help selecting people with filters and Smart Albums.
