Unknown password for Software Update on new mini desktop

Yesterday my new mini desktop asked if I want to update my Tahoe 26 to a newer version. I said yes and agreed to the license.

But, when it asks for a Software Update password I don't know of it. It is not my Apple account password.

Please help if you can.

Thank you,

Jim

The password required for software upgrades is the Mac user account password you use to log in to the computer when you restart it. The first time you set up your Mac you specified a password for your use login. You may have since set your computer to automatically login at restart, but the password is still required. The Mac uses that to automatically login.

If you don't remember your login password, then this: If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support

btw, the Mac Log password is separate and apart from your Apple Account password.
