Unable to record in stereo from turntable on Mac and MacBook Pro

I have a Mac and MacBook Pro both running the latest software. I have connected them to the source a turntable, changed the input source to the relevant input. I am using Audacity software. BUT I cannot record in stereo, I can only record in mono. I am unable to change the settings on my computer nor on the software. is this correct that you can only record in mono on a MAC? The same applies to my MACBOOK PRO

It is not correct that you can only record in mono on Mac.

Exactly how is it that you have connected the turntable to the Mac?

What is the "relevant input"?

If you have used a mono input adapter of some sort that may be the problem. You'll probably need to be using some type of stereo to USB input adapter or device.
