  • What version of MacOS are you running?
  • Is it an internal or an external drive. What make/model of drive? Are you using any manufacturer or third party software or firmware with it?
  • How is it connected and to what port or to a dock? If so, what make/model of dock.
  • Did you manually enter the password? What do you mean by "from the Keychain Access"? Did you open Keychain Access and copy the password from there? If so, why, did you forget it?
  • What has changed? Did the drive mount properly in the past? Then it stopped? What was installed in the meantime. What are you doing differently now versus when it mounted as expected.
  • Why do you need a password for the drive. Is it encrypted, or are you using a manufacturer's software for a lock/unlock drive password.

Download and run Etrecheck and post its report here, following these instructions:

No one can help you unless you provide enough information for readers here to diagnose what is happening with your drive.

I am using macOS 15.3.1

It is an external drive. WD Passport Ultra, No I am not.

It is connected by port, WD Passport Ultra

I both manually and copied the password from Keychain Access.

The drive mounted in the past but it doesnt now. I just installed some steam games and some on windows using crossover.

It needs a password when it's first plugged in but it doesnt now. I dont know why it needs a password when I mount it.

Hard drive wont mount.
