Disable Voice Control by default on Mac mini and iPad

I am using a Mac mini on OS 15.7 .1 and an iPad on iOS 18.7.1

Is there a way to ensure Voice control is off when first logging on and only be coming available when selected.

I also notice that Voice control switches itself off after some short time is there any control over this?

Regrettably all previous answers have ignored the initial question which is as below

Thanks for the reply, but my question was about was there a way of ensuring Voice control was not operational when logging in so that you can then open voice control when you need it, and also there seems to be a period without speech when Voice Control switches itself off, and is there a control over this period.

I am aware you can turn off voice control manually but the question is how to set up voice control initially so that it is not operational when you first logon and similarly is there a control to ensure Voice control switches itself off when there has been length of silence

Yes, I enabled it in order to take the screenshot but before that it had the line through it in the menu bar. I'm glad you asked this question because it's giving me the opportunity to try something out. As I said earlier I do not use voice control but on this occasion I have given it a try and you are now reading the results. I'm quite impressed as this is the first time I have used it properly and I might use it in future when replying because my typing speed is incredibly slow because I use two fingers!

I am getting quite keen on this voice control Roy. It is so much faster than normal writing! I just want to ask you, what is the problem with voice control being enabled permanently? It doesn't seem to have any adverse effect on my computer. I could go on like this forever it's so easy to do the typing.......

The trouble is, it's a lot faster than I can think and talk!

Hello folks, I mainly use my desktop running sequoia 15.7.2 it is this that's always comes up with Voice control active. I have just noticed that if I use my iPad, Voice control is inactive when I first log on but it it is On on a desktop.

My reason for being concerned as Ian knows is that when we were discussing something on FaceTime suddenly we were faced by a notice with sentences relating to what we had been discussing ourselves which was a bit disconcerting. I was hoping that Voice control would only be on when I switch it on and would go off when I have not been speaking for a time. So it looks like a Mac OS problem not Mac iOS

According to the screenshots in the previous reply ( which I suspect came from Ian, not me) Voice Control is off.

If I have VC On but not listening and I go to Notes, for example, and select Start Dictation, nothing happens.

If I select start listening". Then dictation functions.

If I Have VC off and select edit start dictation it creates a small microphone symbol. and I can dictate.

So although VC and Dictation are different, Dictation can be affected by VC and it is much simpler just to switch off VC when you no longer want to dictate. There are too many variables here, but my main concerned was to ensure VC was off at log on and then selectable when necessary.

I have just switched O comingn my voice control and I am dictating. I can't see the difference between dictating and speaking my thoughts via voice control which I'm doing at the present moment so that label doesn't seem to be correct or perhaps Apple have a have other versions of speaking your thoughts with voice control and dictating.

I have found it very convenient to swap between dictating verbally and then introducing keyboard functions such as ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I just chose the word which means the computer wait to hear what I want to have deleted but I wanted to delete it manually so it's the wrong word to choose.but I found working between the keyboard manually and dictating or whatever very convenient and will pick up on a few VC commands as I go along

Sorry for the confusion folks but I've just realised my keyboard does not have an Fn key and for some reason the start dictation facility within edit wasn't there which meant the only way I could dictate was to open up voice control which then meant voice control was active when I l logged on. I have now found an alternative keyboard and hopefully my problems will have been solved. So now with voice control off, I can still dictate using the FN key which I think will switch off after a few seconds something else I wanted, but I had become interested in using some of the irritating numbers associated with voice control. Apologies again for all the strange results I was having.
