AirPods bad connectivity with MacBook Air

Let's say that my AirPods Pro 2 are connected to my iPhone. When I play audio on my iPad, the AirPods automatically switches to play the audio from the iPad. But when I connect those AirPods to my MacBook, and I play audio on my iPad, it will switch, but when I play audio on my MacBook it doesn't automatically connect back. Is there a way to fix this?
