iPadOS 26 - photos app no longer identifies a particular persons face in photos

About a week ago the photos app stopped recognizing new photos of a particular person. This person has hundreds of photos correctly identified, but now for any new photo it simply does not see them. Whether they are the only person in the photo or with a group(photos will correctly see everyone but this person). Meaning it doesn’t even give a face with ?.

I have tried duplicating the photo to have the system try again. No luck.

I have done a reset all settings on the iPad. No luck.

there is no manual way to make it see the person.

any help or next steps to try?

it feels like we should have the option to force photos to look again or manually identify a person it missed.
