How do I stop my MacBook Air 13" laptop from arbitrarily skipping to a different section of my Word document
without me pressing a key. Why is it happening?

Sounds like you may be inadvertently tapping the trackpad.
Go in to Settings>Trackpad and turn off tap to click. See if that helps.

Make sure that you are not accidentally resting your palms on the touchpad.
Maybe you are inadvertently touching the trackpad with your hand while typing.
When using my MacBook Air 13" to type Word documents, it repeated skips to a different section of my document without me pressing any key. I have to keep pressing the undo function to proceed with my sentence. It is very frustrating!
