Image jumping in the middle of my screen when scrolling

I recently purchased 2 Oled monitors and on both monitors when I connect either my Macbook Air M4, or Macbook Pro (2024), when scrolling text there is this invisible square in the middle of the screen where the text or image jumps. I've tested this on both Oled monitors and it happens on both, however if I connect the monitors to my Windows 11 PC it does not occur. I thought it was some sort of accessibility zoom options but I cant find anything obvious in the settings.

Any ideas? Both computers have been updated with all of the most recent OS updates. Also both computers are setup completely different, one is a work computer provided by my employer and the other is my personal. So other than being ran on the same network they both have completely different software installed.

Both of the Oled monitors are identical. I have 2 32" Asus ROG Strix monitors. XG32UCG is the model.

I did try connecting several different cords, first I went through a KVM which ultimately is how i'd like my desk setup with a 3 computer 2 monitors setup. I tried both using USB C, HDMI, etc and nothing helped. Then removed the KVM and tried the same cables directly and that didn't help. The KVM is a UGreen model

The one thing I forgot to mention, I had all 3 computers using the KVM switch for about 3 weeks, that little box didn't appear. Then out of nowhere the box appeared when connected to either Mac but not the PC. IF I remember correctly this might have been a couple of days after the last ios update which both computers would have been updated at same time.

I looked up this monitor and I have to commend you on your choice, it's looking like quite an excellent product.

I would be suspicious of the KVM but you seem to have ruled that out as the cause.

If I had this issue I would try some different resolutions -- but I would not want to spoil the excellent quality of the images on this monitor by doing that (especially if used for gaming). HOWEVER ... I did find this in an Amazon review of this product:

"Freaking EXCELLENT monitor. But it needs a firmware update to fix a flickering issue and as of right now there is no way to update the monitor if you’re a Mac user."

This is from a random reviewer on the internet so I don't know how much credence to attribute to it. Maybe your next step would be to contact the manufacturer support to see if anything can be done.

I don't have a clear solution but can suggest some things to investigate:

  • If the problem occurs on both, look for something in common.
    • Although the Macs are used for different things, are there any common tools installed? I have had a separate Mac for work versus one for personal home use, but have sometimes installed the same utilities on each. Something like a menu bar tool, anything that affects the screen view or that helps simplify manipulation of windows, etc.
    • You indicate OLED but don't say whether they are identical or what the model/brand is. It would be unusual but some monitors do not interact as well with Macs versus PCs.
    • Are you using the same type of cables for the two monitors?
      • Explore using a different cable or type of cable
      • Explore resolution specified for the monitors and changing that to see if it helps. Some monitors can be changed here using buttons on the monitor as well as through the Mac Settings.
    • Are you using a dock. If so, what model/brand. If using a dock, does the issue go away when using a direct connection.
    • Boot into safe mode, is the issue still there.

Hey Steve,

I do appreciate the response.

With regards to both computers they are honestly setup 100% different. Being my work computer its completely configured by my office and we are unable to install our own applications. Other than a couple of simple things like google apps, zoom, and I think thats about it all applications on both Macs are different.
