Can’t save Keynote document without internet

I cannot save new versions of keynote documents when I’m offline.

The problem occurs when I hit the save button on an existing document: I get a message saying that document is locked and I have no permission to save. The problem does not occur when I save into a new document or when I’m online.

The issue persists across all my three devices (MacBook air, pro, and iMac), which run different versions of macOS. Files are saved in the Drive folder (but note that the problem only occurs offline). Of course, if I inspect the file, I do have permissions to edit the file

Do you have your Keynote set to save to iCloud by default?

Check System Settings -> Apple Account -> iCloud -> Saved to iCloud -> See All

You'll see a list of apps that are configured to save to iCloud. Keynote is one of them.

I would expect that it would fallback to the local drive if iCloud is unavailable (e.g. you're offline), but I've never tested that.
