google search goes to ask.com. how to fix it on mac

Mac Studio 2022, Sequoia 15.6.1

When using google Chrome, browser goes to Ask.com instead of Google search.

Obviously there is some hidden code or extension, but I cannot find it.

How can I get rid of Ask.com?

This is what I would do:

  1. Go to Chrome > Settings > Search engine and make sure Ask.com is not even an option. (If it's there, remove it.)
  2. Go to Chrome > Settings > Extensions and make sure no Ask.com, nor any other search-related extension is installed.
  3. Restart Chrome.

If the problem persists, I would:

  1. Export my bookmarks.
  2. Make a note of the extensions I'll want to reinstall later.
  3. Uninstall Chrome completely (including its folders in your macOS user Library; you may google how to do it).
  4. Install Brave instead of Chrome. :P
  5. Import my bookmarks and install my favourite extensions.
