iPhone starting text thread on its own

I opened my iPhone because I received a text from someone and upon opening the phone, the first thing that popped up was a new text thread with a different contact and with no incoming or out going message that I hadn’t had a text from or to in over a week or have a current thread with. What would’ve caused this to have happened?
