Can you block a text message sender without opening the message?

Hi all, so I've been getting those common scammy text messages and I want to block each and every number of each sender and then delete/report the message. Though, from what I have heard it is recommended to avoid opening the message itself so the scammer doesn't see the "Read" receipt showing that you have read their message. Does anyone here know how to Block a number without opening the message itself within iMessage?. I am using iOS 26.0.1 on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I must have missed reading about all the latest features in the latest update of iOS or something as I do actually see an option to "Delete and Block" a message in my Inbox within iMessage now. I didn't know, so if the Admin here wants to delete this thread I am cool with that. Any noobs here can't see this feature yet just update to iOS 26.0.1 !. Cheers.
