Unable to add text in messages on MacBook Pro in a group

In one of my main groups, I am unable to add any text, the text prompt does not show up, in this main group when I access messages on my desktop. It does allow on my iPhone, but not my desktop. I saw a thread saying to delete and then have someone from the group resend a text, I did this and not only does it still not allow me to type on my desktop, but now all photos and prior conversations have been deleted. Not the end of the world, but unfortunate.

How can I fix this, since I prefer typing on my desktop for this family group.
