New USB-C Port Audio Connectivity Issues

I went from and iPhone 13 with a lightning port - all my audio equipment worked fine on this. Recently updated my device to iPhone 16 with a USB-C port. Now all audio mics and headsets with a mic no longer bring sound into my software. Same issue on my iPad 13 that had a USB-C port. I’ve tried about 20 different brands of adaptors. The equipment works fine still on lightning port devices so it’s definitely a device port issue. I get an “enable audio” or “device type” warning sometimes when plugging in equipment. It seems like the Apple USB-C port cannot support/differentiate sound in vs sound out vs charger. I’ve even tried a splitter adapter that splits the mic and headphone feed into 2 aux ports. Many times I plug in my sound equipment and my phone shows an Icon that indicates a charger is connected instead. Anyone know how to fix this?
