Messages taking up more storage on device than in iCloud

Hi guys i’m reach out for support, it’s been an ongoing issue with apple for weeks and the still hasn’t sorted or determined if it’s a software or hardware issue and wondering if anyone has any advice. My messages take up more storage on my phone then it does in icloud which is odd. It gives me no option to delete large attachments and shows the documents and data are way higher than the amount it shows me in each data file such as photos, gifs, etc… When i click on said files it’s blank and there’s nothing to delete. Sometimes photos show up in there that i’ve deleted from my phone 10x over that are from years ago. It’s just a very confusing and frustrating problem as no one has any clues what’s happening.
