Inconsistent and unnatural mouse input on macOS compared to Windows, even with high-end devices

I’ve noticed that mouse input on macOS feels oddly “floaty” or imprecise compared to Windows, even when using high-end mice (e.g., Logitech MX Master, or Apple’s own Magic Mouse).

I’ve even bought both the Apple Magic Mouse and the Magic Trackpad, hoping they would feel more natural but honestly, I’m starting to lose faith. I feel like I’ve given Apple every chance to prove that their input devices can match the smoothness and precision I’m used to on Windows, but I never expected it to make this much of a difference. It’s actually uncomfortable to use my arm starts to hurt after just half an hour.

It’s especially noticeable when trying to make fine, precise clicks, the cursor just doesn’t seem to land exactly where I intend. It feels like there’s always a tiny bit of lag or overcorrection that makes accurate pointing frustrating.

The movement doesn’t feel linear: acceleration seems unpredictable, and the cursor doesn’t track one-to-one with hand movement. This happens regardless of connection type (Bluetooth, USB receiver).

I’ve already tried adjusting System Settings, Mouse Tracking Speed,

Is there a technical reason behind this difference?

Any insight or way to achieve 1:1, Windows-like mouse movement would be greatly appreciated.

Original Title: Why does mouse input on macOS feel so inconsistent and unnatural compared to Windows, even when using high-end or Apple-branded devices? Why can’t macOS get mouse movement right, even after all these years?
