Search in photos not including all photos

iPhone 14 Pro Max, 18.7.1, for some reason, the search function in photos is not returning all photos it should. For instance, a search for “December”, returns far less photos than I have taken in all Decembers. I charge the phone each night, so it is locked, charging and connected to Wi-Fi. It would appear the indexing that is supposed to be automatically happening is not occurring. Any ideas? Yes, I have rebooted, the last IOS update was a week or more ago and have charged for 7-8 hours multiple times since then. Lastly, a search in Google photos for the exact same thing returns almost 1000 photos, in the iPhone photos, it returns 99. Thanks for any help.

I, like Richard, get all of the December photos I'm my 58000 photo library - 6810.

When I use a smart album with this criteria, Text is December, I also get 6810 photos.

Try a smart album and see if you get the same number of hits.

If not try launching your library with the Option+Command keys held down to rebuild/repair your library. Then test again.

I'm on Sequoia 15.7.1.
